To accurately measure your home for window roller shutters, you'll need to determine the opening's width and height. For width, measure at the top, middle, and bottom, and use the widest measurement. For height, measure the opening from the top to the bottom, using both sides and taking the longest measurement.

Detailed Steps:

1. Width Measurement:

  • Multiple Measurements:

Measure the window opening width at three points: the top, the middle, and the bottom.

  • Identify the Widest Point:

The largest of the three measurements is the width you'll use for your shutters.

  • Factor in Guide Rails (if applicable):

If your shutters will have guide rails, you'll need to add the width of the rails to the opening width. Speak to our installation experts for more information.

2. Height Measurement:

  • Measure from Lintel to Sill:

Determine the opening height by measuring from the top of the window opening (lintel or brick opening) down to the bottom of the window sill.

  • Measure Both Sides:

Take measurements on both sides of the window opening and use the longest measurement as the overall height.

  • Account for Pelmet Box (if applicable):

If your window has a pelmet box (a decorative box above the window), include its height in the overall height measurement.

3. Consider Window Reveal (Depth):

  • Face Fit Shutters:

For face-fit shutters, which are mounted on the exterior of the window opening, you'll need to measure the depth of the window reveal (the space between the window frame and the wall).

  • Clearance:

Ensure there's enough clearance around the window for the shutter's header box, guide rails, and bottom bar.

4. Check for Squareness (Optional, but recommended):

  • Diagonal Measurement: You can check if the window opening is square by measuring the diagonals across the opening. If the measurements are equal, the opening is square.

5. Important Notes:

  • Measurements in Millimeters:

The roller shutter industry in Australia generally uses millimeters (mm) for measurements.

  • Accuracy:

Double-check your measurements to ensure accuracy.

  • Clearance:

Ensure there's enough clearance above the opening for the shutter's header box to retract.

  • Consult Fireshutters.au:

If you're unsure about any measurements, it's best to consult with Fireshutters installation team for clarification
